North American Ruddy Duck:
Ranges across North and South America. Often seen in large groups of thirty to fifty, evenly spaced, with a tendency to dive in concert. On dry land it walks awkwardly and with an upright stance because the legs are placed so far back on the body. Also nicknamed blue-bills because of the males bright blue bill. Nests and reeds and cattails.
